Andrea Belotti has insisted he can’t allow speculation linking him with a big-money move to Arsenal get to his head.

Torino’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachli sensationally claimed over the weekend that the Italian club had rejected a £56million bid for Belotti by the Gunners – a claim which the north London club later denied.

And the 23-year-old striker has now had his say on the rumours.

He told Tuttosport: “I have to continue like this, I cannot let it go to my head.

"I always have to work, I hope to play a good 2017 to conquer my dreams."

Highly-rated forward Belotti has scored 14 times in 19 appearances this season.

Dortmund closing in on Zelalem

German giants Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal for Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem, writes John Cross.

Midfielder Zelalem, 19, was very highly thought of at Arsenal but has struggled to make progress towards the first team and had a loan spell at Rangers.

He has represented both USA and Germany at youth level and his contract expires at the end of the season.

A move to Germany would mean Arsenal only get a training compensation fee so it has yet to be agreed and Dortmund are negotiating a potential loan with a view to a permanent switch.

Giroud "on the verge" of signing new contract

Olivier Giroud has confirmed he is “on the verge” of signing a new contract at Arsenal, writes John Cross.

Gunners striker Giroud, 30, has got 18 months left on his current deal and has agreed a new extension after forcing his way back into the starting line-up.

Giroud told French TV: “We’re on the verge of reaching an agreement for an extension. It’s also a sign of confidence and I want to continue my adventure here in this Arsenal family, and I feel very good here.

"When I spoke with the manager, he always kept telling me that I’m an important player. I know what I’m capable of and it’s just a case of being patient, working hard in training and waiting for your hour to come.”

Ozil wants Wilshere’s No 10 shirt

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has revealed he wants to wear Jack Wilshere’s No.10 shirt for the Gunners, writes James Whaling.

The number isn’t being used by the north Londoners this season after England playmaker Wilshere moved to Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal.

Ozil has worn No.11 for Arsenal since his £42.5million switch to the Emirates from Real Madrid in 2013.

Wilshere inherited the No.10 shirt in 2012 after it was vacated by Robin van Persie when he moved to Manchester United.

And Ozil is now keen to wear the number on his back.

"Since Wilshere’s departure last summer, the number is free, but I have yet to get it," he told Kicker.

Welbeck reveals delight at return from injury

Arsenal star Danny Welbeck has revealed his delight at making his return from injury in the FA Cup third round tie against Preston.

The England international has endured a long and hard rehabilitation process since injuring his knee in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City last May.

Arsene Wenger introduced Welbeck in the 83rd minute and the 26-year-old took to social media to show his relief at completing his comeback.

Welbeck said: "In those dark moments there is always a flicker of light. Follow the light. Glad to be back!"
