Players who could be on the move this transfer window
The January transfer window is hurtling ever closer and with it the rumour mill is spinning ever faster with speculation rife about who could go where and for how much when it all gets underway again in January.
Managers up and down the country are busy compiling lists of targets before trying to strong-arm chairmen into loosening those pursestrings.
We will have all the latest news, views, opinion, rumour, whispers, water cooler chatter and everything in between throughout the day here so don’t touch that dial.
Girezmann boost for United
Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has admitted he is open to a move to the Premier League.
The Red Devils are keen on signing the France and Atletico Madrid forward and are expected to swoop for him in the summer with a world-record bid.
And Jose Mourinho will have been encouraged by Griezmann’s latest comments, as the 25-year-old also ruled out joining Real Madrid and PSG.
“A transfer between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid is not an option,” Griezmann told Telefoot . “Barcelona would be an option. But they have three untouchables in attack at the moment.
“PSG could be an interesting option, but I do not want to move to Ligue 1 at this stage of my career.
Inter Milan are planning to take advantage of Alexis Sanchez’s contract impasse at Arsenal, according to reports.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato say Inter are set to invest €150million in their playing squad, with Sanchez their most high-profile target.
Sanchez’s current deal at Arsenal expires in 2018 and he wants a huge rise on his £130,000-a-week wages to commit his future to the Gunners.
Manchester City are also reportedly keeping tabs on Sanchez’s situation at the Emirates.
Akpom set for January loan
Arsenal aim to send striker Chuba Akpom out on loan in January.
Akpom, 21, is making good progress as he closes in on a return after suffering a back injury in September.
Arsene Wenger wants Akpom to continue his education back in the Championship after last season’s impressive loan spell with Hull.
And there will be no short of takers provided Akpom suffers no reaction in his rehab programme.
Cardiff, Fulham and Brentford – who took Akpom on loan two years ago – are keen.
Akpom has been limited to one first-team appearance this season, featuring in the 4-0 EFL Cup win over Nottingham Forest in Septemver.
We’re now just over a month away from the January transfer window and there’s plenty of business to be done.
Just yesterday Santos manager Dorvial Junior admitted he was interested in bringing Bastian Schweinsteiger to Brazil.
Schweinsteiger has repeatedly stated his desire to stay and fight for a place at Old Trafford, but a January move looks increasingly likely.
Dorvial, who watched his side lose 2-0 to Flamengo on Sunday, revealed he has already spoken to the club’s board about sanctioning a move for the World Cup winner.
“I told them that we should try to get a big name in world football, or at least send an invitation,” said Dorival.
“It was just a recommendation … It won’t hurt us to try. We didn’t only speak about Schweinsteiger but other players too.
“A player like that can obviously lift the level of the team, but he has to come with an objective and an appetite.”
